The calm and serene surroundings of the place, it is fit for
splashing around in blue waters of the
Udyavara River, also known as the Malpe
River, and swim as much as you want. The Beach is 6 km from Udupi; this beautiful stretch of soft
sands is just as popular in Udupi as the
Juhu Beach is in Mumbai.
One can see fishermen carrying nets full of fishes out of the
sea and sailing in the distant waters in
their fishing boats in the hopes of
catching more and more fish. Malpe is an
important port city of Karnataka and is
famous for fisheries. Malpe River is used
for navigation for small cargo boats for
about 10 km during high tides. Virgin
beach, golden sands, dancing green palm
trees, clear blue skies and playful calls
of the sea waves make it an idyllic picnic
spot.

Maple Beach St. Mary Island:
Vasco-da-Gama landed in 1498 on one of these
islands which he called `EI Padron de Santa
Maria'. It is from this that these islands got
their present name. St. Mary's Isles group of
clubbed little to the north of the port of
Malpe 7 kms form Udupi. They are just a few
scattered projections of rock rising out of
the western or Arabian Sea around maple.

The speed boat trip at Maple to St Mary Isles
is really interesting. Besides these Malpe is
dotted with tourists places like Balaram
Temple and Ullal.
